Conditions Report -- June 11, 2008

NORTHWEST:

--Forecast for the West Slope of the Cascades.

--Forecast for the East Slope of the Cascades.

--Forecast for Mount Rainier.

--Forest Service Road Report for Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest.

--It dumped in the mountains this week. Road crews were on call to clear snow from Washington, Stevens and Snoqulamie Passes. In some areas it snowed at elevations of 2000 feet.

--Teams completed a number of interesting ascents this weekend in the short weather window. The Ice Cliff Glacier on Mount Stuart was climbed on Sunday. Ingalls Peak was sent. Colchuck and Dragontail were climbed. And of course Rainier was skied.

--The Skyline Arete is closed on Mount Erie due to falcon nests. Read more here.

--The Clear Creek Road in Darrington is closed approximately 1.5 miles beyond the turn-off by an avalanche.

SIERRA:

--After a dry year last year, AAI Guide Paul Ivaska reports heavy snow coverage in the Sierras. However, it appears to be melting fast.

ALASKA RANGE:

--Forecast for Denali

--We currently have multiple teams on the mountain. Everybody has found good coverage of crevasses and easy movement on the lower Kahiltna.

ALPS:

--This website has snow reports for ski resorts throughout the Alps.

RED ROCK CANYON:

-- Temperatures continue to climb in Red Rock and the season has officially ended. Average highs throughout the summer range between 102 and 108. The campground is closed and will re-open at the beginning of September. Locals tend to climb at higher altitudes where the temperatures are cooler. Many visit Mount Charleston or Flagstaff throughout the summer season.
