Red Rock Canyon:

--The Sixth Annual Red Rock Rendezvous went without a hitch.  Eighteen AAI guides participated in the spectacular event.  Alasdair Turner took the following photo of the guides that attended:

Alaska:

Alaska's Mount Redoubt

--Alaska's Mount Redoubt volcano erupted five times on Monday, sending an ash plume more than 9 miles into the air in the volcano's first emissions in nearly 20 years.  Residents in the state's largest city were spared from falling ash, through fine gray dust fell Monday morning on small communities north of Anchorage.  To read more, click here.

--Wrapped in a different way but still enormous, the omnibus lands bill passed the house of Representatives and should shortly became law.  State after state, group after group, have pumped out the releases describing the vast projects that included in the bill since the House voted 285 to 140 to pass the legislation. --In the months since the change of administration on Capitol Hill, the Access Fund and their Outdoor Alliance partners have been busy advocating for the interests of the human-powered recreation community on a variety of issues that impact climbing on public lands, including the 1872 Hardrock Mining Law reform, the FLAME Act, roadless area protection, climate change, the economic stimulus bill, and the President's 2010 budget for public lands.  To read more, click here.
