SIERRA:

-- AAI's Mount Whitney trips are well underway this season. AAI guide Ian McEleney reports:

"When I was last there (a week ago now) the Washboard, a major feature on the East Face, was covered in snow. You will certainly encounter snow on the East Buttress, but it should be more about getting your rock shoes a little wet and less about affecting your climbing decision making process. The hike in, including the Ebersbacher Ledges is almost completely snow free to Lower Boy Scout Lake. Above that i would expect predominantly snow. There could be some postholing, especially between Lower and Upper Boy Scout as things warm up. You will need crampons and an ice axe for an ascent or descent of the Mountaineers route. "
