--It appears that Joshua Tree National Park "restored" some historic buildings at Ryan Ranch. This change has little to do with Joshua Tree conditions aside from the eyesore that they have created near the Ryan Campground. It appears that the NPS decided that the best way to restore these ruins was to cover them with stucco in order to keep them from looking anything at all like what they originally looked like. --Very little happened in the Pacific Northwest over the weekend. The winter weather has finally arrived. Friday through Sunday saw a great deal of rain in the lowlands. Some people did get out before the storm hit. This trip to Mount Buckner took place before the weather came in.
--At least one party went up to ski above Paradise on the Muir Snowfield this weekend on Mount Rainier. They encountered forty-mile an hour winds, wind-loaded slabs and white-out conditions. Winter is taking Mount Rainier into its icy grip. Hopefully it will take the rest of the Northwest soon! To read more about this trip, click here.

--With the arrival of the first real snow in the Sierra last week, the Tioga road through Tuolumne Meadows and Yosemite National Park was closed for the winter. It is unlikely that the road will reopen until spring. To read more, click here.
